Every November, members of The Skin Cancer Foundation staff like to take a moment and remember what we are thankful for. This year, we asked our online community of skin cancer warriors to tell us what they’re grateful for this holiday season. Here are a few of their responses.

“Thankful that I have been blessed with diligent skin specialists that know their stuff! They’ve saved my life numerous times over the past twelve years.”

– Flora S., Australia

“I’m thankful and blessed that my superficial malignant melanoma was caught early and didn’t spread. It was excised five months ago. As a single mommy of twins, I am grateful.”

– Estee R., South Africa

“I’m thankful that after multiple MOHS surgeries on my face, I’m still able to smile every day.”

– Jeff H., Pennsylvania

“Thankful that I have great doctors. I am also thankful for more public awareness that skin cancer is to be taken seriously.”

– Stephen S., North Carolina

“Thankful for the researchers who find new treatments for all melanoma patients.”

– Maureen G., Pennsylvania

“I’m thankful for my close friend that was diagnosed with Stage IV Melanoma. She made me promise to get my skin checked. They found basal cell carcinoma on my nose. It’s been removed twice and reconstructed. I’m thankful it’s not deadly. Please have your skin checked once a year or per doctor’s orders. It could save your life.”

– Stephanie D., California
