After his first bout with the disease at age 26, Sam has had multiple skin cancers removed and is familiar with the warning signs of the disease. But even he was surprised by the appearance of his most recent basal cell carcinoma (BCC), so he’s speaking up about the importance of regular skin exams, getting to know your skin and trusting your instincts.

On the evening of Tuesday, October 18th, hundreds of guests from the beauty, health, entertainment and medical industries were filing into the Mandarin Oriental New York. Waiting for them in the ballroom — which boasted a dazzling view of the New York skyline — was The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Champions for Change Gala.
The Foundation’s brand-new Destination Healthy Skin RV will visit communities around the U.S. to provide free skin exams and raise skin cancer awareness.
In 2024, The Skin Cancer Foundation’s top priority was keeping our mobile skin cancer screening and education program, Destination Healthy Skin (DHS), on the road for years to come. This meant replacing our 14-year-old RV, which had reached the end of its life, with a new, fully customized model that could serve the public for a decade or more.
